11 Months

Emma Lee is 11 months old today! A few stats about her at 11 months.

She:
Is walking
Eating what we eat
Has started weaning herself - still wants to nurse all night however
Has slept 2 nights in a toddler bed
loves to chase Matthew around
climbing on everything she can
A funny girl with a great sense of humor
Loves the "I'm gonna get you" game
Says, "Mamma, Dadda, Grandpa, thank you, and tries I'm gonna get you"
She loves wearing her shoes
Will only walk in the opposite direction than we want to go
Stubborn and strong willed
Loves to give kisses and high fives

I am constantly amazed by this baby girl, she is so much fun. She is full of spunk and personality, she is fearless and tries to do everything. She is a great imitator.

We have been so blessed to have her in our family, and I love her more than words can say!

Happy 11 Months Emma!!

Slacking

I know I have been slacking on my blog posting but I have just been so overwhelmed with everything else I have to do. Things are starting to slow down a little bit, I just have to get the last little bit of stuff put away and fold the huge pile of clean laundry, then our little apartment will feel much better.

We are adjusting to our new home and routine. The kids are both learning so much lately. Emma is almost walking, she takes a few steps and then sits down right now, but for 9 months that is still impressive.

We sold the Pathfinder we had and our trailer and used that money plus our tax return to buy a Ford Freestyle outright. It is great to have a larger more versatile vehicle and NO car payment on it, I will be so excited once we have the title in hand (the DMV has to process it still). We also bought a washer and dryer (new to us), and I found a bike trailer on craigslist (then found out it SMELLED HORRIBLE), and then found a used bike at a bike co-op (we are in Oregon you know). There is a great bike trail by our house and the kids and I are going to start riding it so I can get another form of exercise in during the week. Quite a few big purchases, hopefully we are almost done with those.

Although next on the list is health insurance for me, I have found a few plans that might be worth the money, we just need to make sure we can really afford the extra every month until we get the corolla paid off (only 2300 more dollars and we are car payment free!). That car has the best interest, and right now we wouldn't qualify for rates that low, so we have never paid much more than the monthly payment on it.

That is where we are at. I love my kids, the job is going well, and it is time to get these kids ready for bed!

Wow

A LOT has happened in the last month, not only Christmas which is usually a busy time of the year, but a new job and a move that were not previously planned.

We thought we were going to have a week to slowly get moved and then I would go to training and we would start our new job after I was able to go through training... not so... we found out Thursday (27th Dec.) that we would be starting Monday (the 31st) and would need to move in over the weekend. We were not packed and we were still out of town visiting family. So when we got home we made a plan and started moving. We rented a truck Friday afternoon and just started loading the essentials (furniture, clothes, kitchen, bathroom). Saturday around 1pm we drove the moving truck to our new apartment (Matthew loved riding in the BIG truck with Chris). During this chaos we were lucky enough to have a friend of ours watching the kids, or it really would have been bad.

We are still trying to sort through and clean up the old house but our new place is coming along nicely. It is nice to have a home, instead of having to set it up to meet state licensing requirements. It is also nice that we have the extra space of the office available to us if we need it.

The move was the traumatic event that I am still facing everyday, I will be happy when we turn the keys over to the owners (oh and we were able to find new renters for the house we are leaving, so that was good!)

The job is going well (I think) we still don't have a clear idea of all of the things we are responsible for but I think that will come with time, I am sure after I go through training I will learn more also. I am not excited that I will have to be away from the kids for 3 days, it is about an hour away and about 8 hours long which means 10 hours a day for me. It makes me very thankful that I don't have to be away from them for that long everyday for work like many parents have to.

We are looking for a dryer, so laundry is piling up, I may have to break down and get some quarters and use the laundry facilities.

We had a great Christmas!

Matthew LOVED opening presents this year and made sure he was a part of opening everyone's presents. His favorite presents were: his wood block train, dump truck, leap pad.

Emma Lee had no interest in opening the presents but liked the toys after Matthew opened them for her. Her favorite toys: A singing cow stuffed animal, and her ball popping toys.

So sad :(

I have been torn up inside ever since I heard about the terrible tragedy on Friday. All those sweet innocent children, and teachers who tried to save and protect them. I literally was just sick to my stomach thinking about it, and have been avoiding the computer as much as possible because it is everywhere.
As a parent of young children I cannot imagine what could be the thought process of going to an elementary school with that much anger. All I can think was that he was a coward and figured they wouldn't be able to fight back.
I am getting more and more scared to one day put my children in school. Although currently even going to the mall is an unnerving thought as there was a shooting in the mall about an hour from our house. How can I protect my children? How do you come to terms with so many innocent lives being taken in such a horrific manner? I am at a loss and grasping for some sort of understanding.
The only comfort I can find is that they are safe with our Heavenly Father. I pray for comfort and strength for the families of the victims. I pray that we will always remember the heroic teachers who did everything they could to protect the children in their care. I pray that as a nation we will find some understanding and a way to heal, and that we can figure out how to stop these terrible acts against one another.

Messy

I love my little boy!

The picture above of Matthew is a good representation of what I feel my house looks like right now. I just don't have the motivation to do anything about it.

Below is a picture of Emma Lee abusing our Christmas tree, the bottom strands of lights are all crazy now, oh well I guess it is to be expected with small children. I do stop her from playing with them because I know they are dangerous and have lead ect... but I thought I would get a picture or 2 first :)

On a completely unrelated note I was reading a friends blog, she has ads that are between her posts. I have always known that she gets money when people click on the ads, well it just hit me that I should click on the ads and that simple click will give her some money, however little it may be, it all adds up right?

Life

Life has a way of throwing curve balls just when you think you have a plan that will work. I have been working so hard at establishing a daycare here in Forest Grove and it just has not worked, we are struggling and if we stuck it out it may eventually pay off, but we can't afford the interim anymore. This realization hit me a couple weeks ago and I was not sure what I could do about it, because every alternative I came up with involved me working outside of the home and putting the kids in daycare.
Well then last week I got a random job offer from someone who had found my profile on Linked In, she was recruiting me to be a center director for a corporate childcare center. This was a part of Knowledge Learning Corporation who I had worked for in the past (Kindercare). It would have been a long commute, working in a childcare center, and not something I really want to do. At the same time it was a job, and it was not entry level which was a selling point.
But then I also found out there was an opening at some apartments to be the apartment managers for a 50 unit complex in Banks (about 7 miles from where we are now). This was amazing, I would be able to stay with the kids, rent is paid and not taxed and there are a few other stipends, plus bonuses if I choose to clean empty apartments ect. The only downside is that it would require moving into a two bedroom apartment, switching wards, and not being able to care for the kids we watch now (who we love, they are great!). However the blessings and stability are something I couldn't imagine passing up, we were referred to the position by a manager we know from another complex and we interviewed today and were told we have the position! (pending drug, credit, and background checks which shouldn't be an issue).
What a relief and a huge blessing to know that we will be alright! We have a job, a way to stop accruing so much debt, and a just plain great opportunity. We are excited about the changes to come, a little nervous, because there is a lot to learn but I know we will get it down and be just fine. Our huge curveball came in the package of a nice new perfect job for our situation, and I am just thanking Heavenly Father for looking out for us, and giving us the answer and solution we needed. It is an unbelievable turn of events, and we couldn't be more grateful.

8 Months

I have been very lazy at keeping up with the blog :( Hopefully I will get back in the habit of it after the holidays.

I just had to do a post about my Emma Lee, she is such a sweet fun and happy baby. She constantly is amazing me with her spirit and smarts! This morning she was playing in the front room with all the other kids and I was making breakfast (yummy apple cinnamon pancakes), when I checked on her she was sitting surrounded by toys and having a BLAST!

(A picture will go here but I have to go get rid of some of the pictures)

At 8 months she is:

Crawling
Pulling to stand
Walking the furniture
Eating more and more solids
Loves Graham crackers and yogurt
Balancing on her own for a few seconds
Gets super excited when she sees people she knows (she squeals and bounces - so cute!)
Loves bath time with brother
Hates diaper changes
Is super wiggly and
Perfect!!

We Love Fall

We have a group of friends we play with at the park each afternoon (weather permitting) and with all the leaves falling they have been coming up with new and wonderful ways to entertain themselves and play. It has been so much fun watching them this last week playing in the huge amount of leaves that have fallen. I finally remembered to grab my camera and snap some pictures of the kids playing in the leaves.

Our Thoughtful Boy

I wanted to make sure I record this story because it was a really cute moment.

Chris and I had been cleaning and doing various tasks all day and we were getting worn out. So we sat down to take a break and we were talking about what was left to do and he (Chris) said he was really running out of steam.

Well Matthew chimes in with, "Do you need some steam from my choo choo train or something like that Daddy?"

How cute is that! I love our little boy!

He wanted to sit on the train track for the picture
The long train track Matthew built all by himself!

Thoughts

Emma Lee loves to eat, but really only if she can feed herself. However she doesn't have any teeth so all these finger foods make me nervous! She does pretty well and has had bread, graham crackers, banana slices, mum mums, cheerios, and her daddy gave her a pretzel which she enjoyed very much. If I try to feed her anything pureed or mushy she turns her head away and when I actually get it in her mouth she just spits it out 90% of the time. Anyone ever experience this?

She is starting to walk along furniture, and loves to chase people around the house, she is becoming a very efficient crawler. She LOVES bath time with brother. This morning she was standing looking into the tub and was trying to figure out how to get in by herself. Sleeping is slowly improving.

Matthew is an awesome 2 year old, we love him, he is getting good with letters and counting. He just amazes me everyday!

On another unrelated note, it makes me so sad when blogs I have been reading go private. I have thought about making mine private also, but have not wanted to do it, I just try to keep all my posts safe. I also feel like the wrong person could find it even if there was a password... thoughts?

Anyways we are gearing up for Halloween and are so excited, it seems like we have a ton of events to go to this year. It is going to be a busy couple of weeks!

Lake View Farms

We decided this morning that we should go to a corn maze and pumpkin patch, so we were searching for one near us. Well there were a ton close to us, but one caught our eye, and then Matthews so it was decided. They had a small train that you could ride on, perfect for our train obsessed little boy!
When we first arrived it was pouring rain so we waited about 2 hours for the rain to clear up and headed back to the farm. Here are a few pictures from our fun day on the farm.

Matthew fell down while we were in the muddy corn maze, he was covered in mud and all upset, and Chris was starting to panic because we had nothing to clean him up with. That is when I stepped in and taught Matthew a valuable lesson about what jeans are for and let him wipe his hands off on my jeans. That is what Mom's are for right?

Dare Devil

My baby girl is so brave!

She is already crawling and pulling to stand, I thought she would just be content with that much for now. I don't know why I thought that but I did. Well I was wrong.

Today she has started standing up and then letting go and trying to balance! She is not even a week past six months, I can tell she is going to be walking long before I am ready. So I guess that means I better get ready huh?

Our Musician

I wish that I had my camera at church on Sunday because this moment was just so precious. We were staying late after church because Chris had a PPI and I was getting set apart for my calling, anyways Matthew, Emma and I were waiting for Chris to be done.

The choir practices in the chapel after church and Matthew realized that they were in there SINGING! Oh my he was so excited, "Sing, Sing, Song!"

Not wanting to restrict him from hearing the great choir we have I told him he could sit on the back pew so I could still see him, and he could still watch and listen. Well I was distracted for a couple of minutes and I look over to him and he is sitting on the back pew still, with a Hymn book open, and his hand up leading the music. He was keeping a perfect beat, so calm, and just grinning. It was precious, and made my day to see him enjoy the music so much.

On other music news,

He is starting to ask for children's Hymns by name, and is using words trying to sing along with us each night before bed.

He loves to walk around the house playing his guitar and singing songs.

Anything can be a microphone, even my elbow (he really enjoys singing into elbows... he has got a funny little sense of humor)

Yup, he is driven by music he loves it, and we are doing our best to encourage and develop his love of music.

Just want to say

I LOVE MY KIDS!

Yup I love them a ton, I have been having so many moments lately where I will just sit and watch them, all the while amazed that they are mine. They are such fun, good hearted kids.

I feel so lucky and blessed to be their Mommy
the only thing that would make it better would be a little more sleep at night :)

Hmmm...

I need to earn $65.00, I'm trying to figure out what I can sell to make that much?

I want to buy a membership to the children's museum

Because the weather is going to change soon and the Zoo will be COLD!

I love the Zoo, but it is just not as much fun when it is cold and wet.

Plus the Children's Museum is TONS of FUN!

Seriously Frustrating!

So I just need to vent about this so bear with me, and if you don't want to read it feel free to skip this post all together.

****Start of Rant****

We unfortunately have to put the kids on state insurance because of money flow issues, plus being self employed doesn't provide insurance easily. So I have been trying to get these kids on Oregon insurance for months now. I finally get all the information and everything arranged for insurance and begin to call the providers they have listed in the book they send out, as soon as providers are hearing the insurance I have they immediately say they are not accepting patients with that insurance. SO FRUSTRATING! My kids are over 2 months late for their well child visits, which means Emma is way behind on her immunization schedule, and I can't find a doctor! So one office finally tells me that I need to call and switch to this other insurance provider because no one in the area likes dealing with my current insurance provider so they are all stopping accepting patients from them. I take her advice and call to try and switch, they were able to switch me over but it will not be active until November!

So now I have to figure out if I should wait one more month and take them into Portland for a visit, or if I should just wait another month and take them to the doctor we will hopefully be staying with while we are in the area. I HATE doctor hopping, I want my kids to know where they went, I don't want 10 different offices with records on them, if I ever need to refer back to an office we went I would like to know which one it is. I know in Pullman they went to Pullman Family Medicine, simple easy. Arrrrrghhh!!!!!

****End Rant*****

Thanks for reading :)
